Multi-Room Audio Installation in Warwickshire
Multi-room audio lets you play music in the rooms you choose, from one app or a wall keypad, without a stack of separate speakers and remotes. Warwick AV designs and installs it for homes across Warwickshire, Solihull and the wider Midlands, from our base at Honiley, near Kenilworth.
This page explains how a system works, what to decide early and what a typical project involves, so you can judge what you need before anyone visits.
How multi-room audio works
Every system has three parts: sources, amplification and speakers. Sources are things like streaming services, radio, a turntable or the TV. Amplifiers power the speakers, and speakers sit in each room.
A room or area you control separately is called a zone. The kitchen, lounge, main bedroom and terrace might each be a zone. You can play one playlist through the whole house, or something different in each zone, and set the volume room by room.
The part you notice day to day is the control. With a Control4 smart home the same keypad or app that adjusts the lighting also picks the music, so a single 'Morning' button can raise the kitchen lights and start the radio.
Choosing speakers room by room
We choose speakers for the room, not the other way round. As a general guide:
- Ceiling speakers suit kitchens, hallways, bathrooms and dining rooms, where wall space is limited and sound should be even.
- In-wall speakers suit living rooms and media rooms where you want better sound and a clean look.
- Outdoor-rated speakers suit terraces and gardens, where they must cope with weather and need careful placement.
- Architectural speakers can be finished flush with the plaster so that little shows once decorated.
We offer speakers from Sonance, James Loudspeaker, Miller & Kreisel, Wisdom and Steinway Lyngdorf, among others, and we recommend whichever suits the room and the budget.
Plan the wiring and the network early
Speaker cable is cheapest and tidiest to install before walls are closed. In a new build or major renovation we plan the speaker positions, cable routes and equipment location with your builder or electrician at first fix.
Streaming also depends on a reliable network. Dropouts are very often a Wi-Fi problem rather than a speaker problem, so we look at coverage as part of the design. Our Wi-Fi and networking page explains how we plan that. The amplifiers and network gear normally live together in a ventilated cabinet, which we cover under AV rack building.
Adding audio to an existing home
Many houses can have multi-room audio added without major disruption, depending on the construction, the routes available and how much of the house you want covered. We confirm what is practical at a site survey, and we are honest if one room needs a different approach from another.
If you already have a smart home or cinema system, we can often extend it rather than start again. Our Control4 upgrades and support page covers working with existing systems.
Audio, cinema and lighting working together
Music works best when it is part of the whole home. Your home cinema can share the same control system as the kitchen speakers, and Lutron lighting scenes can start music at the same moment. On a new-build project in Tanworth-in-Arden we set up house modes that combined lighting, displays and audio through Control4.
How a project runs
We start with a visit to see the house and hear how you want to use music. We then draw up the zones, speaker positions and equipment, install and set up the system, and show you how to use it at handover. If it is part of a larger project, we coordinate with your builder, electrician and interior designer.
Where we work
We cover Warwickshire, Solihull, Coventry and the wider West Midlands. Local pages with more detail are available for Kenilworth, Leamington Spa and Stratford-upon-Avon.
Frequently asked questions
How many zones will I need?
Most homes use one zone for each space where you spend time, such as the kitchen, lounge, dining area, main bedroom and terrace. We count the zones you need at the survey and suggest where to start and what to leave for later.
Can multi-room audio be added to a house that is already finished?
Often, yes. It depends on the construction and the routes available. We look at the house, explain what is practical and tell you plainly if some rooms are harder than others.
Do I need Control4 to have multi-room audio?
No. Audio can run on its own. Control4 makes sense if you also want lighting, cinema, heating or security on the same keypads and app.
Can I keep speakers or streamers I already own?
Sometimes. We check what you have during the survey and tell you whether it is worth keeping or whether replacing it will give a better result.
Can I have music in the garden?
Yes. It needs outdoor-rated speakers, careful placement and Wi-Fi that reaches the garden. We plan these together so the sound is reliable.
How long does an installation take?
It depends on the number of rooms and whether the house is occupied or under construction. We give a timetable with the proposal after the survey.
