AV Rack Builds, Tidy-Ups and Rebuilds for Homes and Businesses
A good AV rack is almost invisible. It runs quietly, stays cool, and anyone can trace a cable when something needs changing. A bad one is a tangle of power strips, unlabelled leads and warm equipment that nobody dares touch.
We build new racks and sort out existing ones for homeowners and businesses across Warwickshire and the Midlands. Our main AV rack building page explains what goes into a rack. This page covers the jobs people ask us about most.

New racks, built properly
Whether the rack serves a cinema room, a smart home or a boardroom, we design the layout before anything is built. That means working out the equipment list, the heat it produces, how a technician will reach it and where each cable goes. You get a rack that is organised, serviceable and ready for future changes.
Rack tidy-ups and rebuilds
Racks get messy over time. Equipment is added, cables are swapped, and a spare power strip appears. We can tidy an existing rack, or rebuild it if the layout is the problem.
Signs a rack needs attention:
- Equipment feels hot, or fans run constantly
- Cables are tangled and nobody knows what they connect to
- Lots of loose power strips and adaptors
- Devices are stacked on shelves, with no space to service them
- You are scared to unplug anything in case something stops working
We survey the rack, record what is connected and plan a tidy layout. Where possible, we pre-plan the changeover so your system is down for as short a time as possible. Because we also support systems we did not install, we can work on racks fitted by someone else. A rebuild is also a good time to review Control4 controllers and the network switches inside.
Cooling and power
Electronics create heat, and heat shortens their life. Our racks are designed with airflow and ventilation in mind, and signal cables are kept apart from power. We consider:
- Where warm air will go, not just where cool air comes in
- Equipment spacing and ventilation
- Power distribution, rather than loose extension leads
- Power conditioning and UPS backup, where the system needs it
- Remote diagnostics for commercial racks, where appropriate
If your rack sits in a cupboard, under stairs or in joinery, tell us at the start. Where it lives affects the cooling plan more than almost anything else.
Labelling and documentation
Every rack we build is labelled and logically arranged, with custom-labelled cabling and signal paths. That means a future engineer, whether us or someone else, can see what every cable does without guessing. It makes faults quicker to find and cheaper to fix, and it means the system does not depend on one person's memory. Ask us for the documentation to be handed over with the rack.
Off-site pre-build
Many racks are pre-built in our workshop, which means the work is done in a clean, controlled space rather than a cupboard on site. We build, wire, label and test the rack there, then deliver and connect it, finishing the programming once it is in place. For larger projects, this can reduce time on site and keep disruption down. Some racks are assembled on site where logistics demand it, and we will tell you which suits your job.
Homes and businesses
At home, a rack typically ties together your Control4 processor, network, streaming sources, amplification, TVs and security equipment. In a business, it may sit behind meeting room AV, digital signage or a network of offices. The principles are the same: clear layout, good airflow, safe power and a record of everything.
Questions we get asked
Can you tidy up a rack someone else installed?
Yes. We survey the rack, record what is connected and plan a cleaner layout. We support systems we did not install, so a rack from another installer is not a problem.
Can you rebuild a rack without switching my system off for long?
We plan the changeover in advance to keep the downtime as short as we can. Tell us when your system is least needed and we will plan around it.
What does pre-building a rack in your workshop involve?
We assemble, wire, label and test the rack in our workshop, then bring it to site and connect it. Programming is finished once it is installed.
Will you document and label the rack?
Yes. Racks we build are labelled and logically arranged, so anyone can follow the cabling later.
Is your rack ready for a rebuild?
Send us a photo or ask us to visit. We will tell you what is wrong, what is fine and what we would change.
