Smart Home and Home Cinema Installation in Henley-in-Arden

Henley-in-Arden is a small market town with a long High Street of timber-framed buildings, and the countryside around it has plenty of larger houses. We design, install and support smart homes, home cinemas, audio, Wi-Fi and security for homes in and around Henley-in-Arden. Our base at Honiley is about nine miles away.

Timber frames and thick walls

Many buildings along Henley's High Street are listed, including the Guildhall, which dates from the 15th century, and a number of 16th and 17th-century timber-framed houses. Some have been shops, offices or flats for years, and others are family homes.

Old timber frames and thick, uneven walls make life hard for both cables and Wi-Fi. They also make careless installation much more noticeable. These are the points we consider:

  • Cable routes. Original beams and plaster are not to be cut into. We look for existing voids, cupboards and loft spaces, and plan routes before any work begins.
  • Wi-Fi. One router rarely covers a house with thick walls and several wings, so we place access points around the house and wire them back to a central switch. See Wi-Fi networking.
  • Wireless control. Where we cannot cable, wireless Lutron lighting controls can be added to an existing home with little disruption.
  • Sound. Low ceilings and exposed beams limit ceiling speaker positions, so we choose models and positions with care. A cinema or music room needs a proper survey.
  • Consent. If a house is listed, it is the owner's responsibility to check whether a change needs consent. We will tell you at the survey if we think it might.

Country houses around Henley

Beyond the High Street, the Arden countryside has farmhouses, barn conversions and newer houses with longer drives and outbuildings. For these, the priorities change. A barn conversion often has large open rooms and high ceilings, which are good for a cinema but poor for acoustics unless they are treated. A house with gates or a long drive may benefit from CCTV and alarms that reach the approach and the outbuildings.

Smart control matters in a house like this too. Control4 lets you manage lighting, heating, music and cameras in the whole property from one app.

If you are building new, look at our Tanworth-in-Arden project, a bespoke new-build home in the same part of Warwickshire's Arden countryside, which combined Control4, CCTV, 4K video distribution and Philips Hue lighting.

Our approach

  1. A consultation at the house, where we look at the structure and talk through your plans.
  2. A written, itemised proposal that shows equipment and cable routes.
  3. Installation by our own engineers, with evening or weekend work if you prefer.
  4. Testing and handover, with a support plan as an option.

Questions we get asked

Can you install in a listed timber-framed house?

Yes. We plan routes around the building and use wireless options where cabling would harm it. We cannot give listed building advice, but we will flag anything that looks as if it needs consent.

Will Wi-Fi work through thick walls?

It struggles, which is why we place access points in several rooms rather than relying on one router.

Can you work on a house with outbuildings?

Yes. We connect outbuildings with a wired link where possible, so the cinema, studio or office is part of the same system.

How far do you travel?

We work within about 60 miles of Honiley, and Henley-in-Arden is about nine miles away.
